Postgraduate Diploma in English as an Additional Language (part-time)

1. Each candidate will be required to follow a course of instruction specialising in English as an Additional Language for three terms, including a one-week induction session and a series of online lectures and seminars.  

2. Candidates will complete the following two core courses: 

a) Building the foundations of research-informed practice for English as an Additional Language assessed by an essay of no more 2,500 words, to be submitted by noon on Thursday of week 0 of Hilary term;

b) Supporting English as an Additional Language through research informed practice assessed by an essay of no more 2,500 words, to be submitted by noon on Thursday of week 0 of Trinity term.

3. Candidates will complete a research report of 10,000-15,000 words. The report must be submitted by noon on the second Thursday in August. 

4. A candidate who receives a failing mark for a core course may resubmit the assessment on one further occasion. The resubmission shall be at the next opportunity, or on an earlier date agreed with the Course Director. The resubmission may be deferred once but must take place no later than when the assessment is next examined the following year.

5. A candidate who receives a failing mark for the research report may resubmit the assessment on one further occasion. The resubmission shall be on a date agreed with the Course Director. The resubmission may be deferred once but must take place no later than when the assessment is next examined the following year. 

6. All assessments must be submitted using the University approved online submission system. Technical information on the requirements for online submissions is provided in the Course Handbook. 

7. Candidates may be required to attend an oral examination for any assessment.
