Master of Science by Coursework in Health Service Improvement and Evaluation
1. The Divisional Board of Medical Sciences will appoint for the supervision of the course an Organising Committee. The Organising Committee will oversee teaching provision and will nominate Examiners for the Examination Board.
2. The Organising Committee will appoint for each candidate an academic adviser.
3. Each candidate must follow a course of study in Health Service Improvement and Evaluation for at least three terms and for a substantial part of the three subsequent vacations, as determined by the course timetable.
4. Candidates will be examined in all of the following ways, and will be required to pass all of these assessments:
(i) Portfolio 1:
Submission of a written assignment relating to Modules 1, 2 and 6 in the Schedule below;
Submission of a written assignment relating to Modules 2, 3 and 6 in the Schedule below.
(ii) Portfolio 2:
Submission of a written and an oral presentation relating to Modules 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the Schedule below;
Submission of a written assignment relating to Modules 4, 5 and 6 in the Schedule below;
Submission of a written assignment relating to Modules 3, 4, 5 and 6 in the Schedule below;
Submission of a written assignment relating to Module 6 in the Schedule below.
(iii) Dissertation
A dissertation of not more than 10,000 words (excluding references, tables, figures, bibliography and appendices) on the research topic as set out in the Schedule below to be submitted by 12:00 noon on the third Tuesday in August of the same academic year. The subject of the dissertation must have been approved by the Organising Committee.
5. The arrangements for approval of written work for submission will be notified to candidates not later than the start of the Michaelmas Term of the academic year in which the examination is taken.
6. Candidates will submit their written submissions, including slides to accompany oral assessments, online via the authorised online submission site, by dates published in the course handbook not later than the start of Michaelmas Term of the academic year in which the examination is taken. Each submission must be accompanied by a declaration of the candidate's authorship.
7. Candidates who fail any assessment shall be permitted to re-take it on one further occasion only.
8. Candidates who fail an assessment on the second attempt will be deemed to have failed the MSc overall.
Exit Awards
9. Candidates who have failed the requirement of the MSc but have satisfied the requirements for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma (all the requirements for the MSc, except the dissertation) may be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma.
10. Candidates who have satisfied the requirements for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma (all the requirements for the MSc, except completion of the dissertation) and who do not start or do not complete the dissertation, or fail a dissertation resit, may end their registration and at that point be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma.

- Module 5: Programme implementation and evaluation
- Module 6: Core skills in health systems research and practice
Dissertation:
Students will produce a dissertation based on a research topic of their choosing. A research supervisor/ supervisors will be assigned to each student in addition to their academic adviser. The subject of each student's dissertation and the supervision arrangements for each student must be approved by the Organising Committee.
