1. Before admission to the course, candidates must satisfy the Board of the Faculty of
OrientalAsian and Middle Eastern Studies that they possess the necessary qualifications to profit by the course. -
2. Every candidate must follow for at least three terms a course of instruction in Jewish Studies.

Syllabus A:

Unit (i) Three terms of either Biblical Hebrew, or Modern Hebrew, or Yiddish. Written examination will take place at the end of Trinity Term.
Unit (ii) Two options, one option to be taken in Michaelmas Term
.Unit(iii)andTwooneoptions,option to be taken in Hilary Term.Unit (
iviii) Adissertationthesis of not more than 15,000-words (excluding bibliography), on a topic selected in consultation with the candidate's supervisor and approved by the Faculty Board. Applications for such approval should be submitted to the Faculty office by Monday ofnoughtWeekweek0 of Hilary Term.The
dissertationthesis must besentsubmitted to theChairUniversityofapprovedExaminers,onlineM.Stassessmentin Jewish Studies (Oriental Studies), Examination Schools, High Street, Oxford,platform not later than 12 noon on Friday ofsixthWeekweek6 of Trinity Term. The work must bear the candidate’s examination number (but not the candidate’s name, which must be concealed). Candidates must include a declaration that the work is the candidate’s own.

4. A list of options for

The method of examination will be either by three-hour written examination held at the end of Trinity Term or by essay examination. The method of examination of each option will be determined in advance and will be published in the course handbook.

The essay examination will consist of two essays of not more than 2,500 words each for Syllabus A and not more than 3,000whichwords each for Syllabus B. Each essay must be submitted to theExaminationUniversitySchools,approvedHighonlineStreet,assessmentOxfordplatform by 12 noon on the Friday ofnoughthWeekweek0 of the term following that in which the option was taught. The work must bear the candidate’s examination number (but not the canidate’s name, which must be concealed). Candidates must include a declaration that the work is the candidate’s own. -
45. Lists of set texts must be submitted to the Faculty office by Friday ofseventhWeekweek of Michaelmas term and will be reported to the Faculty Board's second meeting7 of Michaelmas Term. -
5.All work submitted to the Chair of Examiners must be in typewritten form. Two copies must be submitted, securely sealed and addressed. The work must bear the candidate’s examination number (but not the candidate’s name, which must be concealed). Candidates must include a signed declaration sealed in an envelope addressed to the Chair of Examiners that the work is the candidate’s own. 6.
