Master of Science by Coursework in International Human Rights Law (Part-time)

Differences from 2021/22 to 2022/23

  • 1. The Course shall be under the supervision of the Graduate Studies Committee of the Faculty of Law.

  • 2. Candidates must follow a course of instruction in International Human Rights Law. The course will be taken on a part-time basis over six terms.

  • 3. Every candidateCandidates will be expected to participate in two in-person residential study sessions and a course of online guided study including a series of asynchronous online seminars.

  • 4. Candidates are required to satisfy the examiners in the following:

First-year 

    • (a) Two assignments, each of not more than 3,000 words, on the subject of The Fundamentals of International Human Rights Law of no more than 3,000 words each, as set out in the Course Handbook;

    • (b) FourTwo written examinations, each of three hours’ duration, to include two papersone from eachGroup of:

      A and one from Group B as set out in the Course Handbook.  

Second year 

    • (ic) ImplementationTwo written examinations, one from Group A and Development of International Human Rights Law;

      (ii) Populations at Risk;

    Papers taken are to be chosenone from aGroup listB as set out in the handbookCourse to be published by the first week of Michaelmas Term each year.

  • (cd) A dissertation of not more than 12,000 words. The dissertation must be submitted by no later than noon on the third Wednesday in April, on a topic selected by the student in consultation with thetheir supervisor and agreed by any two of the Examiners.

     
  • 5. The assignments under 2 (a) and the dissertation under 2 (c) willmust be submitted tousing the examiners via theUniversity approved electroniconline submission system. Technical information on the requirements for receiptonline bysubmissions suchis dateprovided asin the examinersCourse shall determine and shall notify the candidates and tutors. Hard copies will not be accepted.

  • 3Handbook. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course of study at the discretion of the examiners.

  • 6. Candidates who fail toany satisfyassessments may enter again for that assessment on one further occasion. Resubmissions for the examinersassignments inwill usually be within the writtensame assignmentsacademic underyear 2(a),as the first attempt. Re-sits for the examinations underand 2 (b) or the dissertation under 2(c) will be permitted to resubmit work in respectresubmission of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion whichthesis shall normally be within one year of the original failure.
