1.TheCandidatesCoursemay normally onlyshall beadmitted tounder thecourse if they have successfully obtained an honours degree in a discipline related to applied linguistics.2.The course shall consist of eight taught modules and a dissertation.3.An electronic copy of eachsupervision of thefour MichaelmasAcademicTerm assignments must be uploaded to the Assignments sectionCommittee of the Department of Education's.- Candidates
HighermustDegreesfollowWebLearnasite no later than noon on the Fridaycourse ofWeek 0 Hilary Term, and an electronic copy of each of the four Hilary Term assignments must be uploaded to the Assignments section of the Department of Education's Higher Degrees WebLearn site no later than noon on the Friday of Week 0 of Trinity Term. Part time students must submit assignmentsinstruction fortwothreemodulesterms,on each of these occasions over a period of two yearsfull-time. 4.alsotake six one-term core modules. Each core module will be assessed through a take-home summative assessment, consisting of an essay of up to 2,500 words.- Candidates are also required to submit a dissertation of between 15,000 and 20,000 words
(including footnotes/endnotes but excluding appendices and references or bibliography) on a subject selectedbythe candidate in consultation with the supervisor, which must be closely related to one or more of the themes of the course. The subject and title selected by the candidate must be approved by the Course Director at a time to be announced at the beginning of the academic year in which the examination is taken. 5.Two soft bound, word processed or printed copies of the dissertation must be delivered to the Chair of the Examiners, M.Sc. in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition, c/o Examination Schools, High Street, Oxford, OX2 6PY notno later than noon on thelastsecondFriday of August of the yearThursday inwhichAugust.- All
the final Module examination has been taken. These copies should be anonymous except for the candidate number andassessments must beaccompaniedsubmittedby a declaration indicating that it isusing thecandidate’University’sownonlineworksubmission system.CandidatesTechnicalwill also be required to submit an electronic copy of the dissertation to the Department of Education’s Higher Degrees WebLearn site by nooninformation on thesameday and to submit a hardbound copy of the dissertation to the Department of Education no later than one week after submission of the softbound copies to the Examination Schools. The hard bound copy of the dissertation of each candidate who passes the examination shall be retained by the departmentrequirements fordepositonline submissions is provided in thedepartmentalCourselibraryHandbook. 6.resubmitre-sit the assessment on one further occasion. The submission date of the re-sit will be the next time the module is assessed in the following year,eitheror by a datefor resubmission which will bepublished by the Course Directorwhen the results are released,andwhich will be no sooner than 6 weeks from the release of the results, or when the assessment is next examined the following year. If a candidate fails the dissertation, they may resubmitthe dissertation one further timeit on the next occasion whenthisdissertationsisare examined. Candidates who fail any modules, or at an earlier date as agreed with thedissertationCourse Director. Grades for re-sits of summative assessments and re-submissions of dissertations are normally capped atthe first attempt cannot normally be awarded more than50at resubmission.7.The candidate may also be examined orally. The oral examination will normally be on the candidate's dissertation.8.The examiners may award a distinction for excellence in the whole examination.
