Master of Science by Coursework in Paediatric Infectious Diseases

Differences from 2016/17 to 2021/22

  • 1. The Divisional Board of Medical Sciences, jointly with the Continuing Education Board, shall elect for the supervision of the course a Standing Committee, which shall have the power to arrange lectures and other instruction.

  • 2. Candidates for admission will be required to have completed the assessment and participation requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases not more than six terms before admission to the M.Sc. A candidate who is subsequently unsuccessful in the Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases will not be permitted to remain on the register for the M.Sc.

  • 3. The course may be taken on a part-time basis over a period of three terms.

  • 4. Candidates may be permitted under certain circumstances to suspend status, for a maximum of six terms. Any such period shall not count towards the maximum or minimum permitted period of registration and no fee liability will be incurred during such periods. Any period of suspension taken during the Postgraduate Diploma shall count towards the maximum permitted.

  • 5. Every candidate shall be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:

    • (a) Participation in dissertation supervisions

    • (b) A dissertation of not more than 15,000 words on a research project selected by the candidate in consultation with the supervisor and approved by the Standing Committee.

  • The dissertation under clause 5(b)4 shall be submitted in hard copy and on disc (or equivalent media)uploaded to the examinersUniversity forapproved online assessment platform in the M.Sc.format to be prescribed in Paediatricthe Infectiouscourse Diseases c/o Examination Schoolshandbook, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BG,  no later than noon on the 30th September in the final year of the course, or the immediately preceding Friday if that date falls on a weekend.

  • 65. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course of studies at the discretion of the examiners.

  • 7. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the M.Sc.

  • 86. A candidate who fails to satisfy the examiners in the dissertation may be permitted to resubmit on one further occasion only, not later than one year after the initial failure.

  • 97. A candidate who is successful in the examination for the M.Sc. in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and has previously completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases shall have his or her Diploma subsumed by the M.Sc.
